Students who become sick should go to the school hospital with their student ID to register. You can see a doctor there as well as purchase any prescription the doctor recommends. The operating hours of Consultation are: Monday - Friday, 8:00 to 12:00, 13:30-17:00; Saturday, 8:00-12:00. Emergency consultation serves 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
In the event of a more serious emergency or if international students prefer hospitals off campus, it is highly advised students go to Huaxi hospitals affiliated to SCU. There is an information desk in the main hall and near the elevators in the emergency room you will find a hospital map in English. Please refer to this map to find the medical care which you may need.
Should any emergency occur, dial 120 for the first aid center.
International students covered by accident insurance and hospitalization insurance should immediately inform the Office of International Students or their insurance agent if they are injured in an accident or if they are hospitalized, this will help process of the medical bills accrued.

West China School of Medicine/West China Hospital of Sichuan University (WCSM/WCH) is a prestigious medical center located on the banks of the Jinjiang River in Chengdu, a famous historical and cultural city of China. The Hospital was ranked one of the highest among all hospitals in China by the Ministry of Health in 1990. WCH is one of the largest single-site hospitals in the world and a leading medical center of West China, treating complicated and severe cases, especially in the fields of living donor liver transplantation, severe acute pancreatitis, and clinical anesthesia. The hospital has 4,800 beds and covers an area of more than 470,000 sq m and service area of 400,000 sq m. It has more than 7,800 medical staff working among 38 clinical departments and 16 non-clinical and laboratory departments.

① General Practitioner
All the General Practitioners in the outpatient department of IHSP are all well-trained and licensed to practice medicine. Physician specialists in endocrinology, nephrology, urology, orthopedics, pulmonary and critical care medicine, hematology and otolaryngology from WCH are readily available by consultation to assist in the care of IHSP patients. The hospital provides emergency service 24hours×365days. The patients are treated timely and conveniently.
There are 56 beds in the in-patient department. The hospital admits more than 2,000 patients every year. Internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, gynaecology, psychiatry, ophthalmology and otolaryngology are regularly involved in the care of these patients. Patient transfer and consultation between IHSP and other departments in WCH have been standardized and stream-lined. If surgery is deemed necessary, preparation for surgery and recovery after surgery took place at IHSP.
24-hour hotline in Chinese and English has been setup to provide instant health information for members of IHSP and the general public. The Hospital is a partner of SOS, AEC and other insurance agencies and provides service such as patient transfer and filing for insurance claims.
Family doctors provide information and consultation for members of IHSP. The doctors also prepare health plans for members based on their individual needs. Patients are always accompanied with experienced nursing staff. Annual physical examinations is provided for members of IHSP at a very reasonable charge. All medical records are securely and confidentially kept in the hospital.
For the convenience of the patients and IHSP members, three kinds of payment methods are accepted by the hospital.
1) By yourself with cash, personal check or credit card.
2) By a third party Insurance company or medical assistant agency and other agency, which has partnership with the hospital and therefore can provide guaranteed payment for the patient.
3) By deposit. Private accounts can be easily set-up for patients who want to deposit certain amount of money in their accounts. All the hospital expenses can de deducted from their accounts with the authorization of the account owner.
